XINGOU Pump 3 Sets ZJQ Submersible Slurry Pumps Successfully Deployed for Sand Washing & Tailings Recovery Project in UAE

The UAE’s desert mineral processing and sand washing industry faces extreme operating challenges: ultra-high temperature environment, sharp silica sand particles, high solid concentration slurry and limited plant layout space. Conventional vertical sump pumps and ground-mounted horizontal slurry pumps require complex pump house construction, frequent priming and suffer fast abrasion failure from desert quartz sand.XINGOU Pump Industry recently delivered a complete set of 3 ZJQ integrated submersible slurry pump units for a large sand washing and tailings recycling plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Our engineering team completed full working condition assessment, targeted material selection, customized pump parameter matching, cross-timezone remote installation guidance and post-commissioning operation tracking. This blog elaborates on site slurry parameters, structural advantages of ZJQ pumps, material comparison, on-site service and satisfied feedback from UAE client.1. Harsh On-Site Working Conditions of UAE Sand Washing PlantThe client’s facility focuses on silica sand washing, classification and tailings sediment pool clearing. The three ZJQ submersible pumps are installed in independent sedimentation sumps to continuously extract sand tailings slurry for secondary recycling, running 24/7 all year round. Local unique harsh medium & environment parameters:Slurry Composition & Solid Concentration Medium: Sharp desert silica quartz sand mixed with fine mineral silt; stable weight solid concentration 32%–40% during continuous operation. High-density slurry brings persistent scouring impact on all flow-passing components.Particle Size Distribution D80 particle size 0.3mm, irregular angular quartz particles up to 4mm. Hard silica grains produce severe cutting abrasion on impellers and volute liners, easily damaging ordinary cast iron and rubber components.Chemical & High-Temperature Environment Slurry pH value 7.5–9.0, weak alkaline water from desert underground aquifer; ambient summer temperature up to 48℃, medium temperature reaches 42℃ at peak hours, putting high thermal load on pump motor sealing system.Site Layout & Operation Requirements Compact open-air sediment sump without space to build independent pump room; no vacuum priming equipment allowed; required single pump flow rate 120–160 m³/h, delivery head 22–28m; need automatic stirring function to avoid sand sediment blocking pump suction inlet.Original Equipment Pain Points Before CooperationThe customer previously adopted ordinary rubber-lined submersible sewage pumps:Rubber liners were cut through by sharp quartz sand within 30 days;Sand sediment accumulated rapidly at sump bottom, requiring daily manual dredging;High ambient temperature caused frequent motor overheating and seal leakage;Monthly maintenance downtime exceeded 18 hours, reducing sand recycling output heavily.2. Customized Solution: ZJQ Submersible Slurry Pump + Cr27 High-Chrome Alloy Wet-EndAfter analyzing sump depth, slurry abrasion, alkali property, temperature and flow-head demand, our mining fluid engineers selected matched ZJQ model and formulated high-chrome alloy wear-resistant scheme, comparing rubber and ceramic materials for reference.2.1 Core Advantages of ZJQ Integrated Submersible Slurry PumpZJQ series pump adopts pump-motor coaxial fully submersible design, tailor-made for sediment pool tailings extraction:No pump house & no priming needed, directly placed inside slurry sump to save construction cost;Bottom built-in stirring impeller, agitates settled silica sand automatically to maintain stable high-concentration suction, eliminate manual dredging work;IP68 fully waterproof submersible motor with Class F heat-resistant insulation, stable operation under UAE high-temperature environment;Wide smooth flow channel structure, effectively avoid blockage by coarse sand particles;Dual-layer mechanical seal protection, prevents alkaline sand slurry penetrating motor cavity.2.2 Material Selection Comparison & Final Cr27 A05 High-Chrome Alloy SchemeWe eliminated natural rubber and silicon carbide ceramic after multi-dimensional evaluation, adopting 27% high-chrome white iron (A05 grade, HRC≥60) for volute liner, frame plate liner, main impeller and stirring impeller:Why abandon rubber wet parts? Rubber lining only fits round fine particles under low impact. The UAE silica slurry contains sharp 4mm angular quartz that slices rubber rapidly; weak alkaline medium also accelerates rubber aging, swelling and peeling under long-term high temperature. Why not ceramic components? Ceramic features ultra-high hardness but poor impact toughness. Sudden coarse sand surges easily lead to ceramic cracking; spare part cost is 3 times higher than high-chrome alloy, not economical for continuous mass sand washing production.Outstanding performance of Cr27 high-chrome alloy: Dense chromium carbide crystal structure resists cutting abrasion from hard quartz sand; stable anti-corrosion performance under pH7.

Casting Blank Quality Control (Core Wear Parts Control)

Core flow components of slurry pumps such as impellers, pump bodies, front guard plates, rear guard plates and protective sleeves are all castings. Defects in casting blanks are the main causes of rapid wear, cracking and leakage during operation. Strict control shall be implemented throughout the casting process and blank inspection.

Machining Quality Control (Precision Control)

Machining determines the fitting precision, coaxiality and sealing performance of components, which is the key link to ensure stable operation, low vibration and zero leakage of slurry pumps. All machined parts undergo self-inspection, patrol inspection and final inspection during processing.
