Introduction of A05 Auxiliary Impeller for XAH Slurry Pump

The auxiliary impeller is a dedicated dynamic sealing wear-resistant component for XAH series slurry pumps. It is installed between the rear shroud of the main impeller and the back liner. Made of A05 high-chromium alloy, it is designed for highly abrasive slurry working conditions. It generates centrifugal negative pressure during rotation to block slurry from accessing the shaft seal area, drastically reducing sand abrasion on packing and mechanical seals and minimizing slurry leakage. As a core part that extends the service life of shaft seal assemblies and cuts maintenance frequency, it is widely compatible with all horizontal XAH slurry pumps used in mining, flue gas desulfurization, coal washing and metallurgy industries.

Comprehensive Performance of A05 Material

Superior Erosion & Wear Resistance
The whole part is cast from KmTBCr27 high-chromium wear-resistant cast iron with a heat-treated hardness of HRC 58–62. Uniformly distributed M₇C₃ hard carbides form a rigid wear-resistant framework to resist continuous scouring from fine ore sand and gypsum particles, delivering a far longer service life than ordinary carbon steel and grey cast iron parts.
Excellent Toughness & Impact Resistance
The austenitic matrix balances high hardness and impact toughness. It resists blade chipping and cracking under instantaneous impact from large solid particles during pump startup and shutdown, making it suitable for conveying high-concentration coarse particle slurry.
Acid & Alkali Corrosion Resistance
It withstands alkaline and chloride-containing media with a pH range of 5 to 12, applicable to corrosive slurry such as mineral processing tailings, power plant desulfurization gypsum slurry and heavy medium liquid for coal washing.
Compact Casting with Good Cavitation Resistance
The casting is free of porosity and sand holes. It resists cavitation erosion under high-speed rotation and avoids pitting perforation after long-term continuous operation.

Structural Design & Working Principle

Working Principle
The auxiliary impeller rotates synchronously with the main impeller at high speed. Its blades agitate the medium in the clearance to create centrifugal pressure, forming a negative pressure barrier at the front of the shaft seal. This prevents solid-laden slurry from invading the shaft sleeve and stuffing box, with only a small amount of clean isolating water to realize dynamic sand-proof sealing.

Evenly arranged standard multi-blades adopt hydraulically optimized blade height and inclination angles to deliver stable centrifugal slurry blocking performance. It effectively intercepts fine sand and silt to avoid abrasive damage to the shaft sleeve.
· Integrated Thickened Wear-Resistant Disk
The disk and blade roots are thickened to resist thinning from long-term scouring and prolong replacement intervals. All blade edges adopt circular arc transition to reduce local erosion caused by vortex flow.
· Standard Central Locating Bore
The inner bore matches pump shaft specifications with high coaxiality, eliminating eccentric vibration during operation and preventing bearing damage caused by imbalance at high rotating speeds.
· Custom-Fitted Outer Diameter
The outer diameter precisely fits the cavity of back liners for all XAH pump models, offering accurate assembly clearance without secondary machining for direct replacement of original parts.

It performs outstandingly for slurry with solid content ≥30%, fine-particle tailings and desulfurization slurry. Pumps without auxiliary impellers frequently suffer severe shaft seal leakage.

No modification to the pump casing is required. It can be mounted directly after removing the main impeller, compatible with all standard XAH pump models including 1.5/1B-XAH, 3/2C-XAH and 8/6E-XAH.

Installation & Maintenance Guidelines
1. Ensure uniform clearance between the auxiliary impeller and back liner during assembly. Excessive clearance will weaken the centrifugal slurry blocking effect and lead to sand ingress.
2. Regularly disassemble and inspect blade abrasion, disk grooves and cracks. Replace the part timely when blade abrasion exceeds one-third of the original thickness.
3. Better sealing protection can be achieved by matching with shaft seal flushing water.
4. For conveying strongly acidic slurry with pH＜5, select A07 corrosion-resistant auxiliary impellers instead.
